Week 5: Roof, Wrap, Door, and Wiring

Week 5's update is a little light after the barrage of pictures that Week 4 entailed.  The big thing is that the roofing has been completed, the last of the interior framing should be completed, and that the trades are doing their thing up until our pre-drywall inspection in Week 6.  The lone shot I have for you is our front door is installed!  I know what you're thinking, is that sod for your yard?  Sorry, not mine.  It's for two homes that are about a month or so ahead of ours.  It's still a big "if" depending on the climate if we will get our sod installed before closing or have to wait until spring, but we'll get there when we get there.

On another note, we confirmed with Guardian about our wiring, and with the help of our PM and SR got wall length measurements for our master bedroom.  Needless to say I'm glad we did otherwise our furniture layout wouldn't let us walk to the bathroom from the entry to the bedroom!  So we got everything switched around and we should be in good shape.  Not as dramatic of an entrance to the room, but everything now fits in the space comfortably which is more important.

On to Week 6!

  2. Gee, what a difference 5 weeks make. I can't wait to see how the house will look next week. It looks like you have a front porch too. Is that accurate? Very nice!

BTW-I like the elevation you choose. Which one is it? My soon-to-be neighbor has elevation D with a combination of stone and brick on the front--very nice. I have to admit the Victoria Falls elevations are very pretty.

    1. Yup, we got a front porch. We had the option of doing a metal roof on the porch, but after seeing the occasional hail storm around here we went with the traditional shingled roof.

As for the elevation, we chose elevation E with the all brick front. There were three different elevations in our neighborhood available (A, B, and E) and each one you could select all siding front, all brick front, or a stone / siding combination front. We almost went with B which has those skinny tall windows on a lot more of the window openings, but preferred the double windows for the living / dining / two bedrooms upstairs instead. What's nice is that with that bonus room / loft the three square windows as well as the foyer window all shine into the open foyer / hall / loft area whereas the normal layout has two of those windows in the second owners bedroom closet. I can't wait for this week and finally check out all of the hvac / wiring before the drywall gets started!

  3. When the roofing is completed, it only means the house is almost done. At this stage, you can already picture the real look of the house. Plus, in this phase, you can easily work inside the house because you are fully covered from rain or any harsh weather condition, which can hinder you from finishing your work. ->Allyson Duguay
